英文日記和漢語(yǔ)日記一樣，是用來(lái)記敘一天中所發(fā)生的有意義的事情或?qū)?lái)的打算等。日記可分為記事、議論、描寫(xiě)及抒情等。記事型是用英語(yǔ)記述當(dāng)天自己生活學(xué)習(xí)中發(fā)生的事情。議論型是對(duì)生活中的某一事情或情況現(xiàn)象談自己的看法，發(fā)表議論。描寫(xiě)型或抒情型，則是對(duì)某人物事物的特征做細(xì)致的描述，或針對(duì)某事物抒發(fā)自己的感情。
1、格式：
一般是在左上角記上當(dāng)天日期，星期，時(shí)間的.排列法與書(shū)信一致，星期寫(xiě)在日期之后;右上角寫(xiě)上當(dāng)天的天氣情況，表示天氣情況的詞一般是形容詞，如：fine(晴朗的)，cold(寒冷的)，snowy(下雪)，sunny(陽(yáng)光充足的)，rainy(下雨的)，cloudy(陰天的)等。日記的小標(biāo)題寫(xiě)在下一行，也可省略不寫(xiě)。
2、時(shí)態(tài)：
寫(xiě)日記的時(shí)間一般是在下午、晚上，有時(shí)也可以在第二天補(bǔ)寫(xiě)。因此，日記中所記述的事情通常發(fā)生在過(guò)去，常用一般過(guò)去時(shí);但當(dāng)記述天氣、描寫(xiě)景色或展望未來(lái)時(shí)，可以用一般現(xiàn)在時(shí)或一般將來(lái)時(shí)。寫(xiě)法大致和寫(xiě)漢語(yǔ)日記相同，都是在正文之前有日期、星期幾及當(dāng)天的天氣情況。注意內(nèi)容表達(dá)要清楚連貫、準(zhǔn)確。
