　　In July 1915, at the initiative of Sun Yat-sen, the then Beiyang government formally ordered that the annual Qingming Festival be the Tree Planting Day. Designated places, selected tree species, all levels of government, agencies, schools in the country to participate in the scheduled, hold tree planting day ceremony and engage in tree planting.

　　After approval on July 21 of that year, the country was ordered to comply with the schedule. Since then, we have had tree planting day.

　　To the ordinary Chinese,the festival actually begins on the eve of the lunar New Year's Day and ends on the fifth day of the first month of the lunar calendar.But the 15th of the first month,which normally called the Lantern Festival,means the official end of the Spring Festival in many parts of the country.
